Green-Ag: Transforming Indian Agriculture

The Green-Ag Project aims to catalyze the sustainable transformation of India’s agriculture, without compromising the country’s food security and farmers’ income. The project seeks to mainstream biodiversity conservation, climate change, and sustainable land management objectives into Indian agriculture.

  • Institutionalization of intersectoral mechanisms at National and State levels.

  • Reduction in threat index from baseline in critical biodiversity sites.
  • Bringing 104,070 ha under sustainable land and water management.
  • Sequestering/reducing 49 million tCO2eq greenhouse gas emissions.

To catalyze transformative change in India’s agricultural sector to support the achievement of National and Global Environmental Benefits (GEBs) and conservation of critical biodiversity and forest landscapes.

Project Landscape
            

The landscape spans across Almora, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital & Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand. However, the project is being implemented in Pauri Garhwal district, including the corridors of the Corbett and Rajaji Tiger Reserves. It covers 324,696 ha and is a major corridor for wildlife, particularly the endangered Asiatic Elephant (Elephas maximus) and the Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris).

The project aligns with State policies and priorities, particularly the ‘Uttarakhand Vision 2022’ as shown in the table below.
